Ok Peeps! By the new regs etc, I need to have two orange smokes, with my two liferings and lights. I bought two of these abortions in Italy, they of course live outside with the liferings. But they are metal, they have rusted away and at 20 odd squids each I am not a happy bear. Are waterproof ones available? Non corrosive etc. Plus the ones I have seen have no means of fixing a line to them to tie to the lifering?? Helpppppp!! Thanks for any help.
Colin.

Colin - Paines Wessex do a flare which was developed for navy divers. They are waterproof and have both red and orange contained within the same unit. Red, one end, orange the other. McMurdo are the holding company. Not cheap though mate - about £40 a shot!

I bought similar stuff in Italy. They're as lousy as yours - probably even worse (I spent about 15 €...).
But I keep them in a bag, next to the boat's documents, so they are still as nice as when new.
The name of the drawer is "useless stuff to pull out when asked by officers", if you see what I mean! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Surprised at the price, as I would have expected a larger vessel to carry something like http://www.sailgb.com/p/man_overboard_smoke_and_light_marker/ These last fine for their life and are normally attached via the ring at the centre, the ring pull at the top is attached to the vessel, and when the lifebuoy is thrown overboard, it plucks out the marker and the top ring which is attached to the boat activates the smoke/light system. But it isnt cheap!.
