Hello all.

i am considering two boats in Europe that are similar in performance characteristics, and wanted to know if there is a concensus on built quialty between the two. The first one is a 2002 baia azzura 63 and the other one is a 2009 alfamarine 60. The price is similar. The alfamarine seems to need a paint on the body and the superstructure. I am surprised that the paint would have gone in 10 years considering my 2005 windy had no problems after 15 years, with only difference the windy being white. Any assistance and opinion will be very welcome.

Welcome to the asylum, but are you aware that you are considering a couple of boats whose owners typically trash and abuse like there's no tomorrow?
Trust me, with that sort of toys and their V12 engines + Arneson drives, a repaint will soon be small change, within your overall maintenance budget.

Ref. build quality, it's six vs. half a dozen.
What can really make it or break it is the madness level of previous owners, and their inclination to cut corners or not with maintenance.

Thank you MapisM.

I do intend to have a full pre purchase inspection with a Man engineer during sea trials. Yes I do understand the costs first hand, as I have seen some of the invoices for a man rebuild. Through surprisingly, the paint is not that cheap at 50k when a man overhaul is about 100k.

Gel coat on your Windy is white .
The other two might be painted , quite common for none white in those days .

I think the Baia is the better built boat from the ones I have seen . That 63 is a nice boat btw .
Todays paints are totally different from a decade or two ago .Infact arguably better than gel coat .Med sun / salt is harsh on older paint jobs .

Most I have come across in italy are pretty well maintained btw .
As you say your survey will tell a lot re maintenance.

Gook luck and welcome.
