About two weeks ago we were anchored couple of days between Ryde and Wootton Creek.
I observed some zig-zaging in the AIS tracks of a couple of Wight line ferries and a pilotboat iirc. See picture.
I asked a question about this on the OpenCPN forum, which led to requests for recording "zig-zag tracks" with the VDR plugin, so others can disect the the facts, and lead to understanding of what's going on.
My problem is that we are now down in Galica......
Any OpenCPN users in the eastern Solent area that can help?

The zig-zag track outside Wootton Beacon could be due to the ferry turning round. IIRC St Faith is one of the single-ended ferries. They reverse off the berth in Wootton and down the channel then turn through 180 degrees to make the passage to Portsmouth going forwards.
