Last year I used Seaclear with the uk maps from 'visit my harbour' all worked well. We are no longer
in the uk I am trying to set up a new PC system ( for Med use)
A forumite ( many thanks !!) has kindly sent me CM93 mapping for the OpenCPN system but I don't seem to be able to download the system onto my PC (windows 8) or onto my laptop ( XP ) the lappy says I need to upgrade my XP to version 3 but it wont allow me to do this.
Am now trying Seaclear on PC an laptop but wonder if I can use the CM93 mapping with this?
Any tricks please to get the OpenCPN onto PC and Laptop?

Installing OpenCPN and installing the CM93 charts are two separate processes.

You first need to copy all the CM93 charts from the DVD or RAM stick they were given to you on to your laptop's hard disk. Create a new folder called CM93 and copy the charts to that folder. Be sure to copy everything, there are a few files to copy as well as a huge bunch of folders.

Then you need to download and install OpenCPN. Download it from http://opencpn.org/ocpn/download. Once it's downloaded double-click the downloaded file and follow the installation instructions.

Finally you need to tell OpenCPN where your CM93 charts are located, you only have to do this once though. Start up OpenCPN, along the top you'll see several icons, click the one with the spanner and a dialog box will open. Click the Charts tab on that dialog box and you'll see a list of the folders on your disk. Scroll through to the CM93 folder you created in step 1 and click it to highlight it. Then click the Add Selection button and your folder will appear in the lower Active Chart Directories window. That's it, you're all done!

when you get the dvd or pen drive check to see if the file is a collection of files in .iso format.
if this is so you may be able to copy them straight onto the hard disc.
you have two ways to run the .iso file.
1) Point cm93 at the dvd or usb location and run it where cm93 reads directly from the drive. this works but is slow.
you may have to use a utility like Deamon to "mount" the drive or dvd.
2) Copy the .iso file to your hard disc and then use Daemon to mount the drive as a virtual drive.

both of these worked for me

Sounds like it needs Service Pack 3. To install it MS validate your licence, sounds like you dont use the update service.
Is it a hooky XP build? :o
'hooky'? I dont think so ( guessing that means pirate copy??
But I did manage to update to SP3 thanks for advice and foe pm from Mike 'Mistroma'.
All is good now and the charts loaded easy peasy!! The download took 2 hours!! (upgrade that is)
Thanks all once again....... will tackle windows 8 on the PC tomorrow.
