Help, please! I am googled out.

I cannot get the paid version of OPENcpn to load on my tablet (WiFi only running 4.4.2). At the payment stage, Play Store reports
"No internet connection", when, obviously, for all other uses there is a connection?

In all other respects, the tablet works well and has no other internet problems. I have tried every method suggested on numerous websites without success. I am hoping that someone on here may be able to advise where the android/Google Play Store community hasn't?

So far I have tried:-
1. Fix Date and Time Settings.(Auto seems to standard on this tablet) ...
2. Clear Google Play Store App Cache..
3. Changed DNS Settings .
4. Changed and re-logged in to Google Account.
5. Uninstalled Updates (OPENcpn v5 for android isn't on the previous PlayStore).
6. There is no proxy or VPN software. to change - so I ignored that suggestion.
7. Factory Reset
8. Disconnected the battery and rebooted (very nearly making the tablet U/S until I resoldered the power connections!)

The only thing suggested that I haven't done is 'Delete hosts file'. That is recommended to advanced users only who have 'rooted' their device. As I only have a vague notion of what 'rooted' means, I have assumed it doesn't apply to me.

I suppose the bigger question in a sailing context is; if the set up is this fragile, do i want to use it at sea?

[This is mainly an 'investigation', so, please, no 'buy a chartplotter' postings.]

Cheers
Bob

I have had no problems with my Sony X2 tablets of similar generation. You could try the Android OpenCPN forum to see if anyone else has the same problem. You'll need to register if you want to post on the forum.

Do you mean that you can't get it to install or, having installed it, that you can't get it to run?

If you can't even get it installed, I can send you a link to the OpenCPN sdk which I run on my oldish Sony Xperia tablet so you can bypass the Google Store entirely. It might help to get you started. :)

Re: OPENcpn on a Samsung Tab3 P5210 10.1" fails - "No internet connection"

I'm running it on the same tablet as you without a problem.
I understand that your issue is with paying for it on installing. A workaround could be to install and pay for it on a more modern smart phone first. As the licence is one time and transferable, you should then have no problem putting it on your Tab (I have it on both).

Exactly that. I didn't get close to a download.

Thanks. That worked brilliantly. Being of the engineering persuasion, I'd like to know why the direct purchase didn't work so I checked the settings on my android phone to see if there was any significant difference. The only obvious variation was the OS release. The tablet is 4.4.2 and the phone 4.4.4. It is still a mystery to me.

Next step is to buy some charts. It will be interesting to see whether I can do that directly now that the purchasing 'route' has been established.

Thanks again

Richard,
Thanks for the offer but as you can see above, I am up and running with the basic programme.
