Open CPN and Memory map learning process.

Although I consider that I am reasonably competent navigating [Old fashioned Astro and paper charts all over the world for 40+ years], I have finally given in and put Open CPN and a memory map UK chart onto my windows XP laptop along with the GPS dongle.
I seem to have difficulty in making them talk to each other to produce a working plotter/ navigation tool. I can, and have used a variety of commercial plotters on other people's boats but is there a tutorial somewhere to help us stumblies? Or anyone able to help me without too much geek speak?

Opencpn has a manual. Not sure how opencpn works with memory map charts though

It does work with the VisitMyHarbour Chartstick though.

Oddly enough I am able to read, and have read all three tutorials/manuals and have got them all up and running but do not seem able to integrate them. Maybe I need to change my glasses.

You need different charts, I don't think Opencpn works with memory map charts

What is it that you can't integrate? Is it Opencpn and the GPS dongle? Memory Map and the dongle? The Opencpn and the MemoryMap charts? If the latter, where did you get the MemoryMap charts from? Are they BSB4 charts? If they are BSB4 charts you need to download a plugin for Opencpn to allow you to read them. Search "Opencpn BSB4 charts".
