Did anyone else see this yesterday? I felt so sorry for them :(

When I sailed out of Emsworth It was uncommon to come up the channel on a Sunday evening at low water and not see at least one boat aground on Pilsey sands.

When I crewed an International 14 dinghy, the owner was brilliant at racing tactics, not so hot on channel marks, and we were both sometimes blinded by spray...

I just had time to see that green buoy flash past amongst the spray - on the wrong side and say " Errr...! " - before we piled into the Winner, with a cry from aft of " My Daggerboard ! "

And similarly on Hamble Spit.

A wasted day, apart from the opportunity to give the bottom a scrub, but otherwise not usually very serious.

If you really felt sorry for them, I think it would be unwise to post a picture of their misfortune on a public internet forum.

Of course maybe they were just keen to inspect their underwater sections on a fine day. Always wise to carry a scrubbing brush and some form of paint on board so that if the unfortunate happens you can pass it off as deliberate.

I saw four beached the same way of East Head very early one morning  I think they had maybe planned for it despite being long keelers - unless one copied another

First pic is at the entrance to Chichester Hbr on East side. Pretty certain the boat aground in the channel is trying to get into Bembridge. (It looks like a Sadler29 ... but definitely not mine!).

If you look at ( Page 15 September Yachting Monthly) that's me dried out quite intentionally at East Head, (the Sadler, not the Southerly :D). Pic quite old since hull has been brown for over 3 years.

Why? What my picture doesn't show is that they tried to take a short cut across a corner between two huge markers, but the width on my iPhone couldn't include the other one. I wouldn't call it misfortune.... but it still didn't stop me feeling sorry for them. And if it prevents someones else doing the same thing, then they have done us all a huge favour :)

He is smack between the red and the green.

Photo was taken in Germany, so not many of you will need to take avoiding action. It's taken coming out of Norddeich, on the ferry to Nordeney, and was apparently one of the lowest tides of the year.
You'd have thought they've have moved the markers even if they didn't dredge the channel.
