There is always lots of good advice shared on this forum, so I would like to share this.
Never, never, never leave your mobile in your shirt pocket.
I did and lost it to the bottom of the lake whilst bending over to re- tie a mooring rope. Strange how slowly it spiralled down until nestling itself deep into the weeds. This morning I rang orange who informed me that I need a police reference number before they will despatch a replacement. No wonder you never see any police on the beat, there all dealing with idiots like me.
Anyway there was a post a few weaks ago relating to what you have lost overboard so instead of duplicating lets just deal with "Were have you lost/dropped your mobile" or any humerous tales re- mobiles in general.
I need to know I am not the only idiot.

Death by drowning

Ooops out of the shirt pocket is, I am told, major reason for phone death. But the majority of them drown not in your lovely Lord of the Rings type experience but...in the toilet, apparently.

Not done that but did leave my phone on car roof one day. Never did find out where it finally dropped off or what happened to it.

Our Sales Director did exactly the same thing on my boat with his glasses at the Waterhead Hotel last October. They were new the previous weekend at a cost of £250.

He decided that he would be able to recover them if he jumped into the water so he stripped down to his Next undies in front of a watching crowd sat on the pub lawn and in he went.

He stopped shaking about three hours later and never found his glasses.

i have lost more mobiles than i care to remember
or orange come to that
i have dropped it in the basin whilst shaving
lost it in numerous taxis and pubs
i lost one only to find it three months later under my driving seat in the car
i have not lost one boating
ooh no i only dived into the water with it in my pocket, twice on the same holiday
how brill is that? the second time killed it.

the best i saw was a dad ask his four year old to throw his to him as he rowed away from the pontoon
we could all see what was going to happen
it never dawned on the guy it might not be a good idea.

An old coaster based in Shoreham, on a weekend away to France with her liveaboard crew, clipped the lock gates at Fe---p. Lock-keeper summoned harbour-master to show him the (extremely minor) damage in front of slightly worried skipper. The first look down into the lock removed the plume de le harbourmaster from his top pocket, producing many a sacre bleu, the second look down removed his mobile phone!
There wasn't a third look down and the coaster skipper was allowed to slip away whilst the harbourmaster pointed out to the lock-keeper that his earning opportunity hadn't quite worked out as he had planned.

Yep! Lost an early Startac out of my shirt pocket when adjusting lines in the marina. (The only phone I've ever lost.)

Also, years and years ago, when I had a lake boat, lost my glasses down into the water when bending over the bank. What was I to do? I couldn't see them, they were out of sight and I couldn't drive home without my glasses. So the only thing to do was to slowly slide down the bank into the water following my glasses. Believe it or not, I managed to feel for and find them about 4 or 5 feet down. That's determination! (Or more likely, sheer luck!)

Bear in mind that having a mobile permanently next to your heart is not so wise either. Some medical opinion suggests that this can lead to 'genuine' problems or abnormal ECG results (there is evidence in the professional pilot community for this).

Dipped my Orange phone whilst on my very first hire boat hol on the Thames. We hired a narrow boat (shame) in Oxford, left late in afternoon got to second lock only to find the keeper had gone home.

Whilst two friends worked the manual lock gates, I stood on the side with rope in hand, first mistake should have lopped it round the bollard. Anyway they open sluices water gushes in, me (after a few red wines) gets brave and tries to hold the boat from moving away from the side as my dear wife was still on boat.

Me V 4 tons of narrow boat, narrow boat won, pulling me into the lock, clothed in trousers and leather jacket with.............my mobile in the pocket.

We spent the next five nights with the warm air heating on, and the mobile in front of the vent, after 5 days turned it on hey presto it worked.

Strewth - not good near heart.
I keep mine in my trouser pocket - near to some more rather delicate organs.

Should i attach it to one of my kids Corgi Cars and pull it along behind me - just me on the safe side. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I once spent several hours looking for my lost orange... eventually found it down the loo. When I phoned Orange, feeling really stupid, they assured me that the majority of "lost" mobiles are actually found there! Amazingly, the sim still worked, but i've never kept it it my jeans again ! (that's my mobile..I mean )

Thanks for the humerous tales I am glad I am not on my own.
According to the very pleasant chap at orange business user dept. who dealt with getting me a free yes free replacement. (after customer services demanded £ 70) "dropping in toilet" and Kim this is for you "leaving on car roof" are the most common mobile deaths. I forgot to mension yesterday. Some years ago I had one fall out of my pocket whilst getting into my car. A friend rang me later stating he had good and bad news. The good news he said is I have found your mobile. the bad news is some arse has driven over it. Currently waiting in office for my replacement to be delivered. Keep em coming.

Its nice to know that so many of us have donated so many mobile phones to the fishes!
My first one was dropped whilst trying to awnswer a call from the mast head of a moody, it exploded most satisfactorly upon deck arrival.
The replacement was dropped off the hoist waiting pontoon at Port Solent.
The third was left in the exhaust downpipe of a fairline squardon after a quick repair, engine started and thunk from swan neck death!
My wife dropped a bowl of weetabix on the fourth, the sugar content killed it instantly!
For the fifth I can confirm that the Ericson waterproof mobiles are not.
For the sixth I can confirm that Nokia waterproof mobiles are not.
The seventh was squashed in a car crash.
The eighth is still working and strapped to my belt, trembling in fear of certain demise!

Mine has gone into numerous ponds. As my job is pond construction and maintenance.
I have written off at least 4 Nokia's, current one is covered in cement dust and buttons not working properly. Oh well at least I am due for an upgrade.
