Tide turned early today. Should have been OK to return to our berth at 14:30 but, as you can see, someone had pulled the plug out 15 minutes early.

We'd had a lovely trip though, motoring over to Bradwell, anchored there for lunch, and actually sailing back. We were doing 5 knots with 10 knots of wind using our cruising chute although a shackle pin sheared after a couple of minutes so we had an exciting moment when it came partly undone.

Very still as we left this morning.

MrC left on the boat whilst it sits in the middle of Morgan Marine's pontoon inner side - he's doing some general tidying up and cleaning, I think. I return at 9:30pm tonight when hopefully Chellers will be afloat again. Oh well, we knew we'd put her aground sooner or later, and it's convenient it was a day when we didn't have anything on in the evening!

Are we true East Coasters now?

Only if you didn't expect it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Dang, we probably aren't then, in that we expected it for the last 5 minutes of the trip when all our usual tidal height markers looked lower than expected.

Oh well, I'm sure we'll hit mud some other time soon!

i did something similar last Saturday,i got a bit full of myself after crossing the Deben bar at HW+4,i sailed then motored up to Woodbridge,i was not paying much attention to the bouyage and got stuck in the aptly named"troublesome reach"

i only draw about 14 inches /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i jumped in and pushed the boat off and stuck to the bouyage /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Saw you sailing out Friday morning (I was on the central public pontoon), I went up to Alresford Creek & got there at HW, and you passed me about Colne Point coming back in.

After days of too much wind (came round from Hamford Water Thursday very early, by the time I was off Jaywick it was getting a liitle bumpy for a 22'er) Friday didn't have enough, sods law I suppose.

There was B-all water in Brightlingsea on Friday - we came in late having crossed from Oostende and I dragged the keel through at least 2 layers of mud to get onto the pontoon

Mrs C; I was in a 22' Anderson called Sea Moon, white top, dark blue hull, towing an Avon.

Would it be an idea if a lot of us all met up somewhere in the river, say Colne Point, and all took photos of each other sailing. Love to have a photo of SM sailing, not sure how to go about it.

Ah Ian, I think I did get a pic of you! If your sail number is Z95 I have three photos of you. PM me your email address and I'll send 'em to you.

It would be good to get pics of us all sailing but horribly hard to organise - think we'll have to just rely on luck. We happened to see Swedish Lass on a couple of occasions and ended up getting some really good photos of her - once we'd recognised who she was and that it was a forumite's boat. We're lucky to have a boat that's quite different looking than most so people seem to notice us (despite the signwriting on the side being rather faded) but I had no idea I was photographing you, if that really was you!

Fenders deployed a tad early /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Presumably aimed at us? Yes, we get fenders out early, because MrC isn't allowed to faff around on the front of the boat when we get into Brightlingsea proper in case there are lots of people whizzing about whilst I'm helming as I'm hazy on the Colregs. Equally he isn't allowed to go inside and use the loo when there are lots of dinghies about. Preparation is key when sailing with wimpy me.

Not just you MrsC. Louise and myself are still getting our heads around who's supposed to dodge who, which is Colregs in my view, so we prefer the skipper there to advise if needed rather than make the wrong move

I'm with you Mrs C. My fenders go out about No 13 buoy so I have time to get everything ready in clear water, sails stowed, tea drunk etc before entering harbour with the joys of dinghies slipping in between the moorings and jet skis pottering about etc.

It is supposed to be relaxing - why add more hassle by leaving it to last minute, everyone (if there is a crew at all) rushing about etc. Not in the RN now whith some crusty senior officer barking out orders. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We saw a yellow-hulled boat coming out of Brightlingsea as we returned at 2pm and thought it might be you - but only if you'd put on 50kg since the Pirate Weekend. We concluded it wasn't you. Must have only missed you by half an hour going out then - and we followed you motoring to Bradwell too! Did you see that Dazcat catamaran faffing around by Pyefleet Creek - they raced us (under engine) to Bradwell and won - but we were being economical with diesel!
