Had a great Spinny run down at over 10kts to Yarmouth on Sat. Was lazy and only had the Spinny up so was not bothered if the wind went wrong side of my bum -made it a lot less of a worry dodging others but did wonder how others were treating me re the port/starboard rule.
Got to Yarmouth in record time and spent the afternoon watching the punters watching the Dolphin fish up and down the mooring trots.
Listened to the VHF and the collisions/dismasting reports on the moorings in Portsmouth Harbour - anybody know what happened?
Also heard of grounding on Chi Bar and Hampstead Ledge.
Had our own woopsie on Sunday. Was threshing back to Chi under 2 reefs and geny when the furling drum popped up through the anchor locker to say hello look at me on the fore deck- panic - had the forestay parted?
Decided I did not want a repeat of a few seasons ago when I lost the forestay and geny so quickly set up a few haylards as stays and continued back to Chi under motorsail.
When all quite on the mooring found the pin that fixes the drum onto the bottom forestay toogle had come out - pin in anchor locker but no signs of the split pin. This could not have 'just' happened but was likely to have been noticeable for some time - my own fault for not seeing it on my rig inspections.
Just shows you live and learn even after having a yacht for over 10 years.
