Just read this & either the reporter has got it all wrong or they were trying to launch from the dockside rather that a slipway. Either way it was an expensive day out.

Not an first for SYH I think they have routine for car recovery . Every now and again a car goes in. I have launched from there and the slopes is long, steep, narrow, sometimes slippery and often those with 4x4s choose not to use the cable provided. We used it once in a 2 wheel drive using the cable and vowed never again.

I used to use that slip to launch a 15 ft fletcher and towing with a shogun never considered the cable , however , I found that anytime lower than halfway the ramp was slippery so I can see where people might have problems especially with heavier boats , normal cars should be made to use the cable I think ..
