Online NM - chart updates

Having bought Admiralty Leisure Folio 5600 at the same time as the boat, 3 months ago, I decided to look at the online NM's available on UKHO (nmwebseach).

The system keeps telling me that no updates are availble for SC5600 which seems strange as it covers the Solent and approaches, and will not allow me to enter 5600.n where n is the individual chart number within the folio.

Maybe there is some other number on the charts themselves but they are on the boat and I am 30miles inland, at present.

Is it Me - Does anybody else make use of this facility successfully?

Leisure folios are not updated with this service as I think it mentions somewhere on the site. The only way you can do it is to find out which main charts cover the area of interest and seach for the corrections on them. I believe that Folios are repinted once or twice a year with all corrections. I've had my Solent Folio since Jan 2002 and will be buying a new set at SBS

Thanks for the clarification and guidance.

The website is a little confusing because it implies that updates are available in giving instructions to update Small Craft charts via Admiralty Leisure.

Also, would have thought that the leisure folios are quite popular. I suppose the lack of online updates helps to sell more replacement sets!

Thanks again.

Con\'t buy Admiralty Charts

I got fed up trying to update Admiralty charts and now buy Stanfords charts.
Go to www.allweathercharts.co.uk which is the update service from Stanfords (FREE) from which you will be able to get the updates that matter and apply them to you existing charts. Then next time you buy charts support Stanfords who supply such a good service. Also their charts are very user-friendly. IMHO.
I seem to remember seeing a two portfolio for the price of one offer in this months edition of Yachting Monthly.

UKHO policy is not to provide updates for folios - you are expected to replace them regularly just like other "leisure" products. They are, of course, not kept updated at the retailers unlike the full priced chart, so they can be out of date when you buy them. For that reason, I would question buying one at the boat show unless you knew it had just been issued - after all Sept is near the end of the season. Better to buy in March, say?

The SC5600 Solent folio I bought at LBS in Jan 2002 was dated Jan 2002 but I will certainly check before buying a new set at SBS.

Thanks for the tip

Folios are composite charts made up from a numbr of different charts. Each sheet of the folio specifies the charts from which it is derived and all of these are updated on the web site.

It is possible to update a folio - but a pain in the bum to do. More cost effective to buy new issues (with RYA discount of course).

The Solent folio appears to be updated each year - the last one was Jan 2003 and the next according to the UKHO helpdesk is Jan 2004
