Online Boat Insurance

I recently applied for online insurance with Craftinsure and received a policy document in the form of a PDF file via email. When I enquired about receiving a formal signed policy document through the post I was told that the PDF file was the formal document. I am under the impression that electronic files do not form legally binding documents. Is this true or is an electronic policy document water tight!

I am of the persuasion that electronically created documents are NOT legal under uk law having just had a nightmare trying to sell house whilst abroad. If U find out opposite please let me know.

It is possible that it could be a legally binding document but really it has to be viewed from the point that it can form part of a binding contract.

if you request a quote, they send you a price and a document that fully illustrates what you are purchasing and how and when you are covered and may claim. if you then buy the product that is a contract.

So what you have is evidence of the terms of a contract. Emails etc and the contents of them can be legally binding. EG if you offer somehting for sale or give a professional opinion. That is why there are many weasely disclaimers everywhere.
The transfer of property is not covered by electronic documents and has seperate rules and regs

I would point out that I am not a lawyer. But fairly certain i am correct in parts.
