My boat is fitted with a set of 12 Volt Ongaro Deluxe Stainless Steel Dual Trumpet Horns which, unfortunately, aren't working correctly.

I think the problem may be with dirty electrical contacts, and was wondering if anyone has any instructions they can PM me on how to service the horns?

Many thanks in advance.

My senses were tingling...

OK - Ongaro, generally very good electric horns. Do they make any sound at all? If so, what noises are they making? (good luck describing them in written text!).
Typically the sensitive part of the horn is exposed to the elephants, so they eventually wear out. But could be a build up of crud near the throat of the projector.

We do make normal sized horns for normal sized boats, even though we do have horns for the bigger and then the ridiculous.
Something for a 32 foot nimbus would be a http://www.kahlenberg.com/products/marine-signaling/yacht-horns?f[0]=field_vessel_length%3A34

Have you tried taking your Ongaros apart?

After posting this thread, I also sent an email to Ongaro in the US, and have just received a pdf showing the instructions for cleaning the contacts, which I will try to do this w/e.

Regarding the Kahlenberg horns, when I was at SIBS they informed me that their products are air powered and require a small air compressor, which I don't really want to fit..........do they do small electrical horns?

I fitted K'Berg to my boat, the compressor is a neat little unit I also fitted the small air receiver. Now I look for opportunities to use them, excellent quality and unlike many horns that sound feeble in a relatively short time, they sound fantastic and are very loud! Not a bad thing should they really be needed....
