Hi

We've planned to move everything we are taking (including the dog) by van to Monfalcone, Italy, where the yacht is currently berthed.

The original plan was to drive our own van there, and a friend was to drive it back and sell it on our behalf. Unfortunately his circumstances have altered and he cannot take the time off work necessary.

Can anyone recommend a hire company allowing european one way hire, or maybe know of anyone providing a similar service? I realise there would be a premium to pay for this.

At least this way we can sell the van before we leave, not have to pay for it's return journey and associated costs, and not have to pray for it's safe return!

Included in our cargo is a bank of new batteries, the new foresail and boom tent, tool kits and spares and all the other new goodies, along with anything else we haven't sold or given away. The van would need to be at least transit sized 1.5T (ours is a sprinter) for the weight factor alone!

Any suggestions welcome......

I would look into selling yours if its valuble, then buy a cheapie, which would leave you lots of option as to what to do with it at the other end.

Since you already own a roadworthy van, seems a shame not to use it. Do you know anyone who would like a free holiday -- you can pay their return expenses, etc.?

Could be that someone presently in Italy would be delighted to use your van to take some of their stuff back to the UK and you could share costs? Or anyone on the south of France or north Spain.....lots of folk here who might be very happy to share costs with you.

I know someone who is looking for a van to take back to England towards te end of the season from Greece. Might be able to work something out with them. They could ferry the van to Igo from Venice, load up and return. PM me contact details

Well, if it's any help to you, if dates etc could be made to work, I'd be prepared to drive your/hire van back to the UK. I've a couple of boxes of books I'd like to give to my College, so this could be a good opportunity.
Just a thought!

Hi There, I wonder if you've moved already or have made arrangements with the van? Your forum post came up on a google search - I need to move a cat, a bike, a couple of items of furniture, boxes of books etc from Liguria to London this summer.

One way rentals are quite difficult to organise to the UK. I think it's because the rental companies don't have much use for left hand drive vehicles at the London end.

Anyway if you still need someone to drive your van back, or if Lucian with the books has yet to leave and has some space and wants to share petrol costs, let me know. I'd be very greatful!
