Yet more advice please.

With a few crew changes along the way, there will be people in the wrong places at times and me trying to buy returns to the UK the wrong way round, for example I'll be looking to fly back the the UK after sailing onto the Canaries. Some crew will want single back to UK and some crew single out.

The other concern is my family arriving in St Lucia on a flight with no return ticket. Do the imigration authorities get upset with this?

They wont like your family flying in on a one way ticket. You will need to write a letter that your family members can show to immigration showing they are joining a boat etc....I am sure others have experience of this and can explain better.
My boyfriend flew to St Lucia to meet me after I did ARC 03. We were not flying out of St Lucia but sailing on to Tobago. We found it easier to by a return to St Lucia (Virgin Atlantic) and we changed it when we wanted to leave Tobago

No personal experience, but I know lots of people join and leave yachts in Barbados, Antigua and St Lucia, and immigration will be well used to this and have established procedures. If you don't get specific advice here, try contacting the St Lucia Tourist Board on 0870 900 7697, or their consulate on 020 7370 7123.

The one ways are no problem with the easyjet/ryanair types,
In the Carib we bought one way LIAT flights out to French Islands, which could be cancelled, this was acceptable in St Lucia....but it could be down to the individual at the time, as there was definately a bit of make it up as you go along in some of the clearance offices. Its part of the challenge of the Caribbean, as the sailings pretty straight forward you need some other challenges? We also found the flights to the French Islands much cheaper but on Air France from Paris, we picked up friends in Martinique.

The accepted way of crew joining with one way air tickets is for the 'skipper' to write a letter - To 'whom it may concern' stating that the 'crew' is joing the Yacht ..... anchored/moored in ........ and the person will be added to the crew list on arrival..... signed by skipper/owner with reg no of yacht and 'ships stamp' if available

Always worked for me

A letter from my skipper worked fine for me flying UK to South Africa one way. Mind you I had more of a quizzing leaving at Heathrow than in Cape Town!

Little difference between return and one way tickets from Tobago to UK - just b....y expensive!

One thing about crew lists - make sure you sign off crew at Immigration before the crew dissapears as they sometimes want to see the body in person.

Actually I was going to say that sometimes the cheapest way to buy a ticket is to buy a return and throw the other half away! This is especially true in Europe where single tickets are sold at a premium. Try asking your friendly bucket shop for the cheapest return and tell them you don't care when you come back but will be away at least a week and you will be surprised at the varied answers you get!

I used to get in and out of Tobago really cheaply - there is a holiday charter flight 2 or 3 times a week in and out - the travel agent in the marina in trindad will get you tickets. Cannot remember the name of the charter co but if you surf or look in cheap flights you wil find it... As someone else said Marinique and Guadalouipe have very very cheap flights ot Paris - catch 22 is getting form Paris to UK..
