Hi All,

First off, thanks for the help so far on my topic, BMC 1.5 issue. I have now changed the head gasket, which has helped the engine's running ability no end. It appeared to be blowing between the second and 3rd cylinders before. Was pretty rough sounding before, now really runs nicely, idles low, and runs until I kill her, also running nice and cool. Only thing is there is still lots of white smoke that smells like fuel.

Anyway, now to the problem at hand..she still doesn't start without 'assistance'. I know the plugs are glowing, as I had them out and tested them all, and decoked the holes. I tried running her for 20 min, then killed her, and immediately tried to restart. Nothing, she just spins over.

It has been suggested that the injection pump timing is out, could this lead to her not firing? Or is it more likely injectors?

I have 5 days to get the engine sorted, as I am leaving the UK for the States, and my buyer wants the engine running before paying up. Fair enough.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks again
Steve

They are quite easy to time, get it warmed up,slacken the nut that clamps the injector pump,(cannot remember the arrangement as its about 25yrs ago) then rotate the pump slightly one way or other and pick the best position for revs and smooth running.I seem to remember I couldnt find a timing mark on mine. Before you turn mark where it was so you can put it back where it was if the above doesnt make difference.

Hmm,
Ok, there are 3 nuts clamping the pump to the block. One is very tight, between the bottom of the pump and the starter motor, not sure if I can get to it, but will have another look just now and see if I can rotate the pump/work out which nut to loosen.
Thanks
Steve

Hi again,
Pump is bolted on with 3 bolts in a triangle. 2 on top 1 bottom. The top 2 seem to have slots to allow for movement, the bottom does not & is completely inaccessible without moving starter motor. Am I trying to loosen the correct bolts?
Once the bolts are loosened am I supposed to be able to move it by hand?
Thanks again for the help!
Stephen
