One engine or Two?

I had a similar debate earlier this year and was advised twins were safer. Glad I took this advice - I had a throttle cable snap at Swansea this weekend so stbd engine was stuck in gear. Forward fortunately - and yes power steering is also on stbd engine. Managed to get home fine to Portishead, just switched the engine when clear of the locks and off we went. There are quite a few things other than fuel contamination and snapping belts that can stop you!

If anyone from SeaStart is monitoring this - if they want to cover the Bristol Channel I would be one of the first to sign up!

I can't imagine anything worse than a planing boat that marginally powered that you're never sure if you'll get it on the plane or not. You'll constantly be thinking about how much fouling there will have been since you last used it, and should I invite my friend along 'cos he's a bit heavy etc. I also can't believe 2 x130 hp will give any better performance that 1 x 250 hp, although it does sound like there may be a problem with the single. Tread carefully, and be sure that it will plane with mild fouling and as many crew as you normally want to have on board, or it will be eternally frustrating
