.....mark my words, the Thames WILL become a national park - tho prob not in my lifetime cos it takes so bloody long to get anything done in this country.
But what it really needs is some nice large lakes, so you can turn off the main waterway and just drift around, drop anchor for a day or two like up on the Broads / Dutch waterways.
Should happen when global warming kicks in and water levels rise, probably about the same time as your national park status happens...

I would love to turn a lower paddock into a lake with a cut in from the river, but to do so requires planning permissions and I just can't be bothered with the bureaucracy. My neighbour has put in a beautiful lake, it took 2 years of messing about and gawd knows how much in fees before getting permission.
Ah...but is the soil uncontaminated (soil analysis needed).
Where will the excavated soil go?
Is the nature of the land such that a lake will establish itself without excessive dranage which might affect neighbours etc etc
On the other hand, would have thought it would make a useful addition to flood planning /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Bottom line is........does Byron really want/need a load more boats in his bailywick?

Its madness, how much planning permission should you need to dig a hole in some land that you own and fill it with water?
Not like its going to spoil anyone's view or flood nearby land is it?
A case of jobs just to keep people of the unemployment list I fear.

The day the heavy machinery moved out Eileen and I went over with my neighbour to christen the lake with a bottle of bubbles. As we sat there we saw a Kingfisher investigate, several ducks landed and from nowhere a Muscovy Duck arrived and took up residence.
