My 22 footer has the just the one burner for cooking. I have so far enjoyed the delights of pot noodles, bacon sandwiches, tinned soup, and the occasional omlette.

Anybody know of a anything a bit special that can be done with one burner?

I have written to the BBC and they have promised to get Jamie Oliver on the case - expect government funding and cheaper pot noodles soon.

Yes we have one on our Beneteau 211. No problems with cylinders, solenoids, Corgi inspections etc! Only just bought the boat so can't give you any recipes yet apart from pre-prepared curries, stews etc but we use a sort of metal gauze thingy that goes on top of the burner to make perfect toast in the morning. Best value for refills we have found is Argos: 12 cartridges for £14.99.

We have one on our Jag 21 but we are about to fit a 2 ring and grill (costing £50, is that cheap?).

You can get toast racks for them but i havent tried them, apperentlly they arn't very good.
We usually then boil spuds (potatoes) and any other veg in one pot first (tesco do tins of boiled spuds which are handy) then just fry burgers and sausages.

Not very gormet, but who cares? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

ps investing in a hotplate would be handy

I assume this 2 ring burner is gas powered. Where have you stored the gas bottle on your Jag 21?

Ideally, i would want a 2 burner gas installation as there is a nifty area for a sliding galley which hides under the starboard cockpit seats - but I am unsure about using a gas installation with a sliding galley (possible chaffe of pipes?) and am unsire where i would store a gas bottle

mirabriani - any chance, if you get the time of course, of seeing a pic or two of your burner installation.

I have thought of doing the same, but not sure about the gas bottle in my cockpit locker as that is where my fuel (petrol) tank is. Also I have read about having to have some sort of drainage in the locker for any escaping gas.

I was faced with the same dilema when I bought my boat. I got round it with an orego 3000 which has 2 burners and is fuelled with meths. It's been fantastic and doesn't suffer from any of the safety problems associated with gas. My Pegasus 700 also has the sliding galley you describe and the whole thing works a treat.
Good luck and "bon apetite" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would be delighted,- if I knew how to do it.

However I am not sure if a pic would help.

The galley runs on tracks. There is a substantial
loop in the flexible pipe. Later models than mine
had a better 2 burner and grill in gimbals.
However I will ask if any one on the Trapper
Forum can assist.

Regards Briani

Hi,

Do you have sleeping bags or blankets and bunks on board? I suppose you have and that solves all problems for you.

when you cook one burner, you decide a) what takes the longest, b) what can be kept warm without detriorating and c) goes the quickest.

Then you make the thing that keeps warm without any problems and put in on to a bunk and cover it with blanket or sleeping bags. It will stay boiling hot for 4 or 5 hours.

Then you make what ever goes quick and can be kept for a bit like mash and put it together with its companion under the sleeping bag. then make the final item that goes quick. For instance I never liked green beans, found them rather tasteless until I discovered the portuguese way of making them.

Here is an example for you

Chicken breasts with smash (instant mashed potatoes) and portuguese green beans

Tin of green beans french cut. Fry finely chopped garlic in butter or margarine (I use Margarine and oil mixture it does not splatter as much) until garlic is golden, dont overdo it, garlic turns bitter, add beans and stirr, add ir you like a little maizen or flour to bind it a bit, add pepper and salt to taste, pack it in to bunck anc over.

Put smash into pot and add black pepper and salt at this satege, boil water, make smash and put it together with bean under blanket.

Flatten chicken breasts with bottom of 500ml coke bottel or any other bottle you might have, (it is no use clutter the boat with an extra item for beating meat), put little chicken spice ot BBQ spice, pepper, salt onto chicken breasts, roll in flower. Whie doing this, you have heated up a frying pan with marga/oil mixture very hot, put chicken titties in and fry short on both sides, depends how many people you have to feed, say three, they should be dishing in mash and beans now, by the time they are done, you can serve chicken breast already. Dont do the chicken tities too long they get dry, just short and they stay juicy.

Enjoy the meal, but dont bite your fingers of because it is nice

And so in this manner, you can make almost any dish you like, just a matter of logical sequencing. I ahve learned to cook like this not on a boat, but while travelling and camping. In 1970 I slept 200 nights under the southern cross camping, I managed then and have improved since.

I am prepared to share some more recepies, simple an sophisticated, no I lie, I dont have te time. One day.

we are going to store the gas in the cockpit locker, as there is a holder for one there.

Don't know what you would do about the pipes, perhaps store the gas on the sliding galley.

Why not buy a pressure cooker? You can cook meat & three veg in one pot much quicker than conventinal cooking and use less gas as well. There's loads of recipes on the web - try this

Mind you, SWBMO won't use one - doesn't like the hissing steam, and since she does the cooking, who am I to argue? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

has it gottan oven? You can make nice things and keepem warm in the oven, then caryy on making yet more food on the burner, no?

Otherwise, try Gazpacho for starters (need 0 burners) Fresh Trout in Cider for main course (1), and Zabaglioni for dessert (1).
