As the days shorten and in mellow mood will admit to my worst ever error of judgement in the boaty world.
The 15 year old american petrol sports cuddy boat had lain neglected outside in a small boatyard for about two years and had been up for sale for about same period.
Advertised asking price plummeted as time went on by approx 30%.Eventually went to have a look and made an offer, seller very reluctant to sell his pride and joy but eventually his wife told him to take my mean final offer and run.
It took a week to get the boat to run and on its maiden voyage a few miles down river both engines packed up resulting in a tow home.First grief was to replace frost damaged risers and then it really started.Weeks went by before both engines would run for any length of time and to its last day in my ownership they never ran right, favorite was stalling on tickover if they ever started in the first place.Always nice layer of oil in bilge due to the stuff oozing out of every seal and gap.Do not get me started on legs or the replace weekly rams.
A quick note to mention the boat was rotten from stem to stern will suffice and there may have been some wood in side the transom which had not turned into a pulpy slurry but we were never certain. The cuddy cabin was lined with the sort of fabric that teddy bears were made from and the same colour, roof lining and its glue was prob more substantial than the actual fibreglass of the roof..
Will not mention boat maker or engines as have been assured by several slighty annoyed defenders of this make of boat/engines that the newer stuff is made from pure gold and diamonds and never ever goes wrong ever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Ps.Was on first name terms with local M********r dealer who shut down shortly after we sold this boat.

Win some, lose some.

At the end of the day, you looked, you bid, and you bought a dog, but it could have been the other way round and it could have turned out to be a bargain.

Better luck next time.

Go on, tell us what it was!

FWIW I would hesitate to buy any small(ish) bling bling MOBO of an elderly vintage with one engine, let alone twins (especially with Sterndrives).

It's not the boats or the engines that instrinsicly concern me, it's the owners that frighten me / my wallet!, cos' by the time these things get "Cheap" the odds are good they have started to attract owners who have done things on the cheap / not at all / no idea that any maintanence is required / don't have the money to up keep her / lack the skills to do so.

In car terms I think 1982 XR3, nothing intrinsicly "wrong" with the car as such, just the kn#bheads who have owned it maintained it (or not) r over the years..............
