Well, we have finally done it, three years after buying Le Scarron; a 1969 Triana 25' in a bit of a sorry state in Guernsey, trailering her back to Southampton courtesy of Condor Ferries , then getting sidetracked into building a big extension instead of getting on with important things like refurbing the boat the issue was finally forced by the Hamble Harbourmaster coming up with the goods - a mooring.

Trouble is, that meant I had to get my skates on and get her on the water and take the new mooring up or else he'd take it back - not a situation that could be allowed as it is a gem - down at Warsash, right opposite Hamble Point.

So two months of flat out work, every weekend + every evening until the small hours. she is nowcompletely rewired from the keel up, re-plumbed, new bronze skin fittings, new hydraulic steering, new exhaust manifold on one engine [£850 later, thanks Volvo] etc.etc.etc. we are ready to go. almost....

Last Weds eve tow a mile down the road to be lifted in. Next door neighbour Pete's V8 Land Rover is spinning wheels tugging it out of the drive on to the road. Bu99er - two wheels out of six on the trailer had seized, so we jack it up by the side of the road and beat seven bales of [--word removed--] out of the drums to free them from the back plates. two hours later and we get there.

Next day, a beautiful sunny one, the lift in and no leaks... loads more jobs done.

Saturday, Scot the Kiwi engineer [highly recommended] arrives to help commission the engines, they've not run for at least five years. Hydraulic tappets V.noisy at first but soon settle down so its out to Southampton water for sea trials. Engine temps all fine so lets give her a go...

Straight up on the plane and 25 knots at 4000rpm, absolutely beautiful, what a fabulous hull, so smooth, and soft riding, straight through the Red Funnel wake like it wasn't there, you can just tell why these boats have such a good reputation as sea boats.

Down to her home mooring and the family come out to join her for the de-naming and re-naming ceremony, supper and much Champagne. what a great day!

nice classic UK boat
wonderful & pretty

pity no mainstream UK builder ever tryed to develop those lines, I hope someone wakes up
before it happens with the same as with the USA lobster which now has become more of an Italian Lobster thing....

Thanks all for the kind comments and best wishes, am V. chuffed with her.

Thanks Ben I'll watch out for that - spent Tuesday evening rigging new double mooring lines and shackles fore and aft from the dinghy in the rain and a force 6, not fun.

Small postscript; - Had a small drip from the exhaust bellows on the starboard engine, so thought "I'll change that", having procured said part removed the manifold and elbow on Wednesday evening only to find.....two huge cracks up the elbow, turn said manifold over and peer into ports only to find its a holey as a swiss cheese - Bu99er!

Blimmin lucky not to fill the cylinders with water. So another £1000 to the Volvo dealer and I'll be fitting my second new manifold tomorrow morning.

Funny thing is I am reasonably relaxed about it this time coz I now know the boat actually works and is deffo worth it.

Very nice and lovely to see being used. As for a mainstream builder (Poweryacht) developing the style .... Would they dare ?
