I had occasion to look up some dimensions for a certain sailing boat.

Maximum Hull Speed 6.07 kts.
Sail Area/Displacement (SA/D) 16.09 (Cruiser-Racer)
Displacement/Length (D/L) 199.5 (Light Displacement)

The comments are from SailingJoy.com, but fit other assessments of the figures.

While she's small, she sounds like a good prospect for some competitive racing to me. What do you think?

It depends on what handicap system you are racing under.

None at all - the boat's my Snapdragon 24 with, I believe, the highest PY number in the list.

I'll bet that's the first time anyone's accused her of being a light displacement cruiser-racer! :D

Tough, dependable, seaworthy even, but even her best friends wouldn't call her quick!

6kt isn't slow! I was chuffed to bits with 6 in mine last weekend when racing a 40' Southerly! He may not have known it was a race but I kicked his arse all the way up the harbour!

I have to say that, off the wind, a Snappy's no slouch. 6knots isn't too hard to find with 15knots up her bum and I've done 7.5 knots on the log just under genny, but that was in a building 7 and it was getting towards the wrong side of exhilarating by the time we got where we were going. I was VERY glad the genny rolled away without any drama!

My record is 11.8knots on the GPS, but that was in Hurst Narrows with a bit of help from a spring tide.
