I' m sitting here reading the posts and feeling so left out. Ok so I'm recovering from major eye surgery and waiting ( endlessly) for a hip replacement, so I'm not in the best of spirits. I read the posts and whereas I should be relieved that I don't have to worry about DEKPA's, boat yard fees, the price of diesel and the Port Police it leaves such a hole in our life.
I've tried to relieve the compulsion by writing and have had some success, but it's not the same as doing. I'm currently in the middle of a new book set in the Ionian and Adriatic. It's a murder suspense with most of the action taking place on a Pershing 65 Mobo in a Venice Marina. Whereas I have spent an afternoon on the Pershing (moored next to us at Vathi) I have never been to Venice. So my imagination and memories just have to do.
So for those of you worrying about the next front coming over and the next flotilla coming in to lift your anchor I say, make the most of it and squeeze the excitement out of every chaotic opportunity. You'll miss it when you can't do it any more. Trust me.

In case this helps, here is a list of the tasks I have completed over the last year (and given that I work full time it's amazing I sailed at all). The remaining list of things still to do is just as long, and generally a lot more expensive. There is a huge upside to not owning a boat as well as a downside.

Edit: Shortened or I'd remember too much hassle to do another season:
Fix things
Sail and Fix things
Fix things before Winter

You have our sympathies and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

I can understand you having the experience of big mobos, but just wonder about the murder bit .... :)

Thank you RupertW. It was like reading a good porno book. Some of the stuff got my heart rate up.
Sarabande. Thanks there were many times when I felt the urge, usually with tradesmen and Marina chandlers, especially the guy on Aegina who I suspect has survived many attempts on his life.
