OMC - Transmission Dis-engages

I own a (84/5) Glastron 230 powerboat, with a V8 OMC 230 engine. Although a little old, the engine and boat are in really great condition. The boats drive engages sucessfully annd the boat pulls away and accelerates well. When the boat is up on the plane at 3-4000 rpm (30 knots+), the transmission often dis-engages. If I let the revs settle and then re-engage the transmission, the boat will pull away again and if I keep the revs below it will stay in gear. If I push the revs up, it'll dis-engage again. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Could it be the rubber bush in the prop?
Really grateful for any help you could give me. Yours, John Todd

It doesn't sound like the rubber in the prop, sounds more like, either an indent not engaing properly when the gear lever operates the dog clutch in the drive, or a worn dog clutch, (teeth got rounded off). But not sure of course, always difficult long range fault finding. But I reckon one of the lads will have had the same problem at some time!

These were well known for dog clutch wear, although I have known the prop bushes to go as well- this normally shows up before planing speed at about 2000-3000 rpm
