Hi Guys,
i have just joined up and am in need to help or hints etc.
I have recently rebuilt the engine as the water jackets on the exhaust manifolds were leaking and the whole engine was needing a good clean and many new parts. So i got it back together and its starting fine and was running ok but was staggering on accleration and was losing rpm at high rpm. So i made a slight adjustment to the timing, by advancing it slightly and it was jumping out of the water and was running great. But on saturday i was cruising at about 3200rpm and this metallic rattle/tapping noise came. i immediately powered off and stopped. Started up after a few checks and the noise wasnt there. Built up speed and noise eventually returned but if i eased off the throttle the noise stopped. So basically the noise is intermittent and not always there. Doesnt do it at idle only when at mid to high rpm. Engine is not overheating etc and oil pressure looks good.
