Consultation information

http://www.london2012.com/making-it-happen/planning-consultations/eton-dorney.php

PS - have just taken a look at the details myself and cant believe how lightweight the two exhibitions of proposals are :

Royal Windsor Racecourse, Maidenhead Road, Windsor, SL4 5J on:
Thursday 12 August, 4–8pm WOW !!!! a whole 4 hours !!!

The Finish Tower at Dorney Lake, off Court Lane, Dorney, Windsor, SL4 6QP on:
Friday 13 August, 12 noon–8pm and
Saturday 14 August, 11am–3pm

Both venues hardly likely to attract vast numbers of joe public to go take a look and only for a matter of hours anyway !!

[cyninic-mode-on]Well, at least they will be able to say they did consult ......[/cynic-mode-off]

Still don't see why they don't do a ferry. Far cheaper than a bridge and a bespoke pair of pontoon boats with electric drive would be all green, or at least give that impression, which is probably the same thing. Said ferries could then be used elsewhere such things were deemed useful, or at least recycled.

That would take all day to get spectators across, let alone back.
Reading Festival needs a bridge because the ferries aren't efficient enough.

Being a cynic, I feel the "consultation" is more a matter of "due diligence", than really wanting to get public opinion.

Then they can say "the public has been consulted" when they apply for PP, meanwhile slipping in the bits that may not be acceptable to the public at large. (Frinstance closure of the river for security reasons as hinted elsewhere).

Having seen how EA very nearly got away with their initial daft T&W order by keeping consultation quiet, I'm very distrustful of any public body.

Anyway the exhibitions don't need to be long as there's not a lot to say; judging by the website.

I agree,
but the river is much wider at Boveney - or even further downstream towards Windsor; the Reading bridge was rumoured to cost something with load of "0"s in it and of course can be used for future events - the supports are permanent structures on either side at Reading.

'Suppose the bridge could be in two hops - one across the weir and t'other at the head of the lock island.
Downstream would mean a long walk for spectators.

Ferries would be a whole lot cheaper and re-usable.

Anyway that's a lot of detail at this stage.

Cynic, moi? But: it would be an interesting exercise to compare and contrast the numbers wanting to get to Reading Festival and Doney Lake for the rowing. Even more interesting to compare surge demand as opposed to constant flow.

And the green appearance of electric/solar ferries may be a seriously valid point in quite a few eyes:-)
