old yamaha 8 2 stroke

A friend has an old Yamaha 2 stroke age unknown, which has a big plastic gear on the pull chord setup, as you pull the chord the plastic gear engages with the starter ring, can somebody guess the age or model. I can't find anything with this setup online. Thanks, Dr Syn

That looks just like the P165 8HP I've just been given, I'm looking for any info on points gaps and static timing setting if anyone has any old manuals.

I have seen one of those before but I don't recall where. I thought the starter gear was to gear down the effect of the pull cord to make a larger motor easier to start by hand. I have yet to try starting outr4 stroke 8HP on the emergency cord.
