Hi, I have just purchased and launched a 1976 Conway 26 which has twin Volvo AQ 140's driving through 280 drives. On my first trip one of the fresh water pump bearings has gone. I was advised that it was identical to a car part but, although still searching, it seems the car part is identical except for the water outlet which goes direct into the heat exchanger. A real shame as a car pump is £20. Anyway the long and the short of my ramble is can anyone recommend a good value supplier for older Volvo Penta parts. The best quote I have so far is £130 + vat which is about 7 times the price of the car unit...I know boat parts are expensive but that takes the mick!! thanks for your help...Iain

Bearings?

If one of the bearings has gone, can't you just replace the bearing? Or has the body of the pump been damaged? Bearings are very easy to obtain, and very cheap.

Welcome to the world of the Volvo rip-off! A number of standard parts are interchangeable, but Volvo find that adding the word 'Marine' pushes their costs sky high! Rubber engine mounts are a prime example. last time I needed them (a long time ago), they were £40 each. A Volvo car spares centre sold me the same item - same stock number, same manufacturing codes embossed etc, - for just £18 a PAIR /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

More recently I looked at the cost of a set of bearing shells for an MD2. A set of 4 (2 on each con rod) cost around £250. A year ago I put a full set of 8 for a Perkins diesel for under £50 - costing less for the full set than for a single half shell for the Volvo! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
