I bought an old VDO windset (80's style) at a bargain, say 15 euros, and guess what it doesn't work. Im trying to find information how to strip down the sensor, the 3 half balls rotor and the vane... Anyone know any source of an exploded view diagram or something?

I have checked the cable for continuity and the clocks go active when power is switched on, but connecting the cable to the sensor freezes the wind direction and maxes out the close haul. Nil response on the wind speed meter.

Thanks in advance,

Duncan

Now difficult to get spares for VDO instruments, and I doubt you will get a manual. I found a dealer in Germany, but e-mails to them went unanswered.
Is the instrument you have the same style as this log instrument? If so I would like to buy it off you, as one of my wind instruments has a blacked out LCD.

I recently bought a 1987 Nauticat 35 - from a German owner in Breskens, Holland. It was fitted with VDO depth instruments and wind (direction, close hauled, and speed). I replaced the depth instruments with Raymarine, since one of them wasn't working and I couldn't source any VDO spares.

However I do still have the wind instruments, which are 1985 vintage, together with some dog-eared, multi-lingual instructions. Not much info on the mechanicals of the masthead sender unit, but lots on installation and wiring.

If you want to put a quid in an RNLI lifeboat, I'll copy what I've got and send it to you.

I would really appreciate that. I hope it will not to much trouble, as I am located in The Netherlands.

I support the Dutch KNRM with an annual donation, but will make an additional one. I will send my particulars as a personal message.

Sincerely, and many thanks in advance,

Duncan

HI everybody!

I received as a gift the same wind instrument posted here. I´d like to know hoy to conect it.

The only thing I need is to connect power (12V) since I´m not planning to connect it with a speed instrument because y have Raytheon Bidata.

Can anybody send me the instructions o help me to connect it?

Thank you in advance,
Julio

Hi do you still have the old VDO wind Masthead transducer. If so I may be interested in purchasing it. My VDO instruments were manufactured in 1985. Thanks.
