Today had a problem with my in-use Mariner 3.3 two-stroke.
As a quick fix took out of the cellar my spare outboard, a mechanically identical 3.5 Tohatsu, that I have been keeping for the day the Mariner really expires. It was last used over 4 years ago, then flushed with fresh water, plug out and a few drops of oil put in, then spun to distribute. This afternoon it started third pull on the 4-year old 50:1 fuel in the tank, and ran fine after a couple of smoky seconds when it first fired. After that first run it is back to the usual second pull start - neither of my engines have ever fired first pull from cold.
Then fixed the Mariner, took about half a hour, gummed up carb.
