My 26 year old Evasion 32 has teak everything when new. The previous owner painted over the teak with brown paint.. which I have now stripped off, and power sanded back to natural teak.
I have applied "teak oil" to a sample patch, but is tends to go very dark and would be almost black with 3 coats - will it lighten down with age, or should I be using something else?

Why not leave it bare?

Bare teak weathers to a nice gentle colour and requires very little maintenance. It has good grip too.

Decks should be left and they will grey with age, the only cleaning afterwards will be either salt water not fresh, or TCP with a scotch nylon pad across the grain. If you are talking about brightwork there are several different methods from yacht varnish to water based acrylics. Personally I use Burgess wood sealer (which gives the teak colour) and several coats of Topgloss. in my opinion it stands up as good as if not better than Yacht varnish and is much faster and easier to apply.
PM me if you need further info

I had a similar problem where the previous owner applied coloured sealer to the solid teak. After much labour, elbow grease and furniture stripper I am getting it back to bare teak. I will leave it to age, and whiten naturally, while carrying out required cleaning with salt water when ever necessary. It looks so much better.
