Old style cockpit tent - slug news

I have something similar for Carousel. The boat was kept for a while on the broads and the tent is reminisent of one on a classic Broads cruiser.

TBH, I don't use it as I don't want to put it away wet. It's too good to let it get spoilt by mildew.

I've concluded that for my humble purposes, a bivouac on the bottom-boards and an old tarp over the boom, may be the easiest solution.

The tarpaulin would keep heavy rain off, held over the gunwales by shock-cord...and the bivouac will keep midges (and eight-legged crew-members) out of my sleeping bag.

On my last boat I had a simple rectangular boom tent as you describe and it worked just fine. I'm not at all convinced that the complication of side and ends is worth it.

Saw a boat in tarbert with a second tarp over the spinnaker pole which had been clipped to the mast at one end and was near deck level at the other they had no spray hood so it stopped the rain blowing in the open end
