when talking about your boat , do you religiously stick to the correct nautical terms or simply it for friends and family. When conversing with non boaty friends do you use the nautical terms and then find that you spend all evening explaining what you are talking about. Could things be simplified or do you think we should stick with the Old language and terms.

Certainly make it simplified...like Parking the boat....left or right.....front or back...that way nautical or not you dont have to en up with something going wrong before you realise that they didnt know what you were talking about.

I am one for plain english, i work for the NHS and they love complicated language which causes soooo many problems, I say call it as you see it and speak a language they will understand.

well not much point in using boaty terms to non boaters, they don't know what you are on about, easier to use just plain english

Ooh no. I religiously use all the wrong terms, steering wheels, bedrooms kitchens bogs left and right foraward and backwards. Of course, if someone else says "at the back" i'll like as not say "you mean the stern?" cos the whole point of the nautical jargon useage, really, is to wind people up heehee.

I like that idea, I am going to steal it and chang eall the systems I look after, the A&E current patients list from today will read 'Currenly Not Dead list'

There are so moany things I could re name on my systems that would make them more accurate but I fear I would loose my job! Life is sooo unfair!
