I inherited a Sabb 2 cylinder 1973-ish 16 (or is it 18) horse diesel engine with my sailing boat. It is cooled with raw sea water - and I have to say, apart from a bit of vibration which doesn't seem to have done much harm in 35 years, its really great!! However, I can't seem to see any evidence of a sacrificial anode on the engine itself to take care of the corrosion which, presumably, the cooling sea water must be causing. Anyone know whether there is one, if so where and if not, should one be stuck somewhere - and if so, where?!!! Thanks v much.

My Bukh engine has an internal anode, but I have noticed that it lasts a lot longer if the main external anode on the boat's hull is in good order. So perhaps that's one thing you can do to help your engine!

Cheers! Neil

As far as I remember the only anode on the Sabb was fitted to the water cooled exhaust mixer - and that ( square box shaped) mixer was an improved replacement for the previous oval shaped mixer which used to burn through .
