If you're running a laptop from a 12v source I think you will need a power invertor - Maplins should be the best bet.

why use an inverter, and have the power losses from 2 x power conversion and rectification, when you can get a DC/DC converter from maplins

the 120w one is best for the modern laptops, any less and you risk overheating. You can get most laptop plugs (except Dell)

You don't need an invertor - you need one of these Laptop Power Adaptor
