\'Old\' Lewmar 16 winch

I have a pair of Lewmar 16s, pre standard wicnh handle sizing. Anyone know if I can still get handles to fit or is it replacement time?

Re: \'Old\' Lewmar 16 winch

You can adapt the "new" handles by cutting the ends to fit. A hacksaw and grinder made short work of the Bartons I bought for the purpose.

A couple of weeks after doing this, I went into a chandler in Brighton marina (Russel Marine perhaps? I think it has closed anyway) and he had a box of old winch handles by the counter - I bought two for £10 each and a locking handle for £15.

The old size handles are still available; but at £90 each I chose to grind/file four of the corners off a standard winch handle (as Mono suggests).

Yes - in a word. Make sure you adapt a handle with a square section end fitting, rather than a multi faceted one.

Yes - that's normal, and the square section winch handle fits when it's cut down to size.
