I have just acquired an old hurley 21/20 the previous owner told me it was a Hurley 21 after much research
I believe it to be a Hurley 20 im about to start the restoration and was wondering if theres any known common
Problem areas I should pay particular attention all feed back and advice appreciated

Hi,

You will want to visit www.hurleyownersassociation.co.uk and also an active Hurley yahoo group https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Hurleyowners/info

The original rudder tube was "apparently" a converted scaffold pole that rusts out and can sink the boat ;-)

Rather good rain water butts, it took me two years to finally stop the rain getting in.

+1

Rudder tube - replace with stainless or heavy duty plastic
Chain plates - look for cracks/squidgyness from cabin side
Mast compression - look for a nice chunky bulkhead
Bilge keels - check for boots, and whether anyone has reinforced them across the top

For leaks - check the cockpit locker lids... :D
