My NTM has been laid up ashore for at least 18 months. The diesel in the 20L tank (pretty much full BTW) has been sat there for all that time and I wonder about its condition. Plan is to remove it and use it mixed with fresh in the car. I will refill the boat tank with fresh fuel and plan to always keep a couple of additional 20L jerrys aboard that will be used to top off the main tank after each trip until one needs refilling etc.
Anyhoo... Having had recurring probs with bug on a previous yacht (a Service yacht owned by Her Maj and 'skippered out' throughout the year), what does the collective wisdom of the forum say I should consider in respect of treatment additives? Dose the tank with 'X' when I first refill it to ensure it is 'sterile' and then add a splash of 'Y' to each jerry when filling it before taking it aboard to keep it all in good condition?
I'm not saying I already have the bug, at this time I can see no sign of it and I will be servicing the engine and changing all the filters in the next few weeks anyway, but I wonder if a good 'dosing' before launching and the use of an ongoing prophylaxis might not be a sensible idea after being laid up for so long?
