Well, actually, it's Take5's fault, he asked for it. He wanted some more pics of The Swellies. So I stuffed a few in an album. There are two trips recorded, one heading SW towards Port Dinorwic (PD) at low water neaps and one returning towards Bangor about an hour early for the HW slack.

Feel free to peep, people. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Couple of "pretty ones" - from the bridge to either side and from bridge level.

Hello K,

Is that the same south cardinal on the island photo as I can't quite make it out?

The day that me and SMWBO came out with you how was the water level compared to them photos mate?

Yep there is only one Cardinal in the Swellies.
Now, come on, lesson begins.
What does the Topmark tell You?
There are two more Cardinals in the Straits.
Tother ones are by Caernarfon.
And, while We are at it on this www. remote correspondance Course , what are the light flashy whatsit characteristics? on said Pole?
Tee Hee, this is good stuff!
Over /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Im inclined to say "EASY", but if I get it wrong i'll look daft.

South Cardinal Buoy "tip: to self means KEEP SOUTH". Cardinal Marks warn of danger.

Light Characteristics are 6 white flashes plus 1 long white flash. The one 1 long is to stop confusion with the West cardinal which is 9 flashes. Easy to remember as the number of flashes correspondes with the position on a clock.

Oh! yep, bye the way etc.
The Day We went through, it was a "Neap" so what does that mean?
The day I took the piccie, it was just about 1/2 an hour after HW Springy ish.
"HW Springy ish" is Not in the RYA syllabus as a definitive Term.
But it is in Mine!!
Get prepared for a dose of My headache tablets.
Yer gonna need em by the time I finish with You and SWMBO. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hate to say it, but come next November there will be a few Mobos doing 5 knots too. Still if you want to go faster you could try a yacht, we were doing 6.8 knots down Sarfhamtpon Water on Saturday and really pleased with that speed /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great photos, its on our list of places to do, along with Strangford Lough, Scottish Western Isles ........

hmmm, a Neap tide is when the difference between HW & LW is smaller. Spring is when the range is wider i.e HW is higher than neaps HW but LW is also lower then neaps LW.

There are 2 HW and 2 LW in a 24 hour cycle. And the tides change between Neaps and Springs every 7 days? So in a month we have 2 Springs and Neaps.

I have tried to recall that from memory, is it right ?

The Swellies is a good training ground for Strangford..............

If you get the tide wrong going in it's a little like the "Big One" at Blackpool. That said it is superb once inside. It's the only place I have seen Killer Whales, we were very excited........... the seals weren't too happy! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
