OK, Who\'s done it then?

Fallen in off the pontoon that is!
Visited a marina with a particularly narrow finger pontoon on the w/e. Whilst hosing the boat down, I stepped back into thin air, perfectly sober. Felt a right t**t. SWMBO in the shower and didn't even hear the splash!
Interested in others experiences

Yes last november put a new mainsail on the boat and hoisted it.... walked down the pontoon with the binos to look at the top of the mast and plop /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif worrying thing was i could not get out on my own i needed assistance. if knowone was about i think i would of been in trouble.

Me too - see MOB in the Menai post from a couple of weeks back. Very embarrasing but not as bad as last Friday at brother in laws 50th party. Stepped back into 4ft deep fishpond. Only excuse is that a small amount of beer may have been drunk prior to the mishap. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif hope its not catching!

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

Swmbo told me that peeps would be embarrassed about saying they had fallen in because they apparently would think that everyone else would think they'd been drinking. (You work it out).

Me, I've been tumbling off pontoons sober all my life and I genuinely think it is completely normal behaviour.

My last swim was this Easter bank holiday Monday. Reached down to the water to retrieve a shoe thrown by our youngest, reached further and then started sliding head first down the side of the boat. A personal best though, in that I managed not to swallow any marina water and came up with my hat, wallet and keys all intact.

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

Not fallen off a pontoon ( but have been for an accidental swim off a boat while holding the tender on a long line) but have lost at least 3 pairs of specs and countless change peering into the water...doh

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

I slipped off a ladder between the wall and the boat at st mary's in the scillys, i was really embarrassed walking up the beach then back around the wall dripping wet through, could have been worse though...oh and I was stone cold sober

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

I was cleaning my rib as the tide was going out , needless to say the rib was not tidied up to the moorings and started to sail away on its own, had to make a quick decision, mobile phone and wallet out of pocket and jump in after the rib, swam to it and climbed up on the outboard, and paddled back,

very wet and ashamed.

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

Bob, it is sometimes better to fall in.
Phill (with 805 in our Marina) nearly fell in last year.
Managed to steady Himself but gashed His leg on the edge of the 'toon' quite badly.
He had intense pain and so did I laughing!, nearly bust a gut /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I fell in the Gracht in Amsterdam a few years back.

Bloody Nora! try getting out of a Canal.

No I was not stoned/ drunk

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

Never fallen in. but did have a slight wobble transfering the outboard to the boat, was more worried about dunking the OB.

First thing I always now do is drop the bathing ladder when anyone is aboard in the marina. just check out how far the nearest pontoon steps/ladder are any you soon decide best to always drop the ladder.

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

There I was on the edge of the slip trying to start the outboard on the inflatible. Several pulls but no start and a large crowd on the pier wall looking on, next thing I give it a good old tug and the pull cord gets caught on my lifejacket pull cord....result one lifejacket inflates not a sound from the outboard and one embarrased muppet......me ! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I see so many people struggling to hook the outboard up to the RIB/inflatable, holding on to the outboard as if their lives depended upon it.

A hot tip is to tie a short length of line twixt boat and outboard. Then, if you DO drop it, it ain't going to Davy Jones' locker.

Oh - and yes, I have fallen in - whilst cutting an 8'x4' plywood panel on the pontoon. Managed to 'place' the (still running) 120v. jigsaw gently on the pontoon as I was on my way into the briney... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

I,ve still got the bruise from a cleat as i slid into the water at Farndon,as I slid however a problem occurred when aformentioned cleat stuck in my pocket thus hanging me upside down in the drink, luckily my squeals for help alerted a mate who dragged me out
I could have walked into a chandlers and ordered the said cleat from the bruise impression /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

It took a while to laugh about it /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and it still feckin' hurts

Re: OK, Who\'s done it then?

I think I set the pattern for my life when, aged 3, I followed some small wading birds onto a green pond surface which supported their weight but not mine. My father said that he was laughing so much that he expected to be reported to the NSPCC by some passers-by. He also mentioned that the resulting smell from the algae and mud on my clothes made him want to be a considerable distance away from me as we walked home.
