This morning I got a flyer from West Marine through the post. So, evidently, has Jools (see thread below on safety harnesses).

The only magazine that I currently subscribe to is Classic Boat, and I very much doubt if the Little Ship Club or the Cruising Association has flogged my address.

So..... have IPC sold a mailing list to West Marine? And the RNLI, by any chance?

Tell the truth or I'll put a Law Lord onto you....(Lord Donaldson sails from Lymington, as I recall....)

I got the RNLI bumph through the post yesterday. I don't subscribe to any of the mags. Although I am a member of the RYA.

Got the west marine lot today - but no RNLI (already member) I have traded with West Marine, and I don't have a sub with IPC, though I used to 3 years back. (I ticked the box for no other info). Hope IPC is not giving our names out! I dispose of 1 dustbin of junk mail a week

I think they're inocent. I've I recieved the West Marine stuff at my work address, which IPC don't have.

The bit that worries me is I can't think who does have my work address. The only two people I can think of are my marina and Northshore, neither of which seem likely to pass the info on.

Good heavens

What do you think arrived in today's post?

You've got it in one.

Particularly struck by the ice chest on wheels. If only I could find somewhere to stow it.

Ice chest on wheels no use. But could you check and see if there is a beer belly on tap?

Am not aware of any sale of data to West or RNLI..

Which is not a politician's answer but a genuine one.

I'll check but in any event data protection act taken extremely seriously by us and unlikely you are going to find any unauthorised release of data from IPC. We often come up first in peoples' gunsights, as you'll have seen here in the past, but I can assure you that much more time is spent here in protecting data than selling it, to the point of near mental breakdown sometimes when planning projects that involve gathering personal details.

Fair enough

My apologies for doubting you - but the co-incidence is pretty striking, you must agree?

I've also had the West Marine and RNLI stuff. OK so if Yachting Monthly (IPC) haven't passed my info on that only leaves the boys and girls from Sailing Today and the RYA... Can anyone narrow this down any more?

I'm not with anything IPC and got the RNLI stuff but nothing from West Marine.
When you think of all the setups that have your mail address it could be anyone. What about one of the chandlery companies if you are looking for someone sailing related that may have your address ?
Getting junk mail is just one of the 'features' of modern life in my view.

Thats interesting - I haven't had one - but I'm not a subscriber, and I don't believe I've ever returned any of the reader surveys...
