OK, I'm only an iggerant Yottie . . .

But why didn't they just get back on & drive home?

2 hours in the sea after falling off a jetski

So didn't they have a kill cord? Why couldn't they stay with the "vessel"? I thought jetskis were supposed to stay afloat? Can anyone suggest what might have happened?
I don't know what happened to them, but a bloke round here got some fishing net sucked into his new jetski and it virtually destroyed the engine.

Rescuers said one of the pair could not swim

says it all really, having been witness to these things jettisoning their riders on more than one occasion. They ought to take a few lessons before they blat off into the big blue yonder, at least no one was injured, this time.

In my experience the jetski lot are brain challanged 'let me make as much noise as possible in a nice quiet place for as long as possible and spoil as many people's peace and quiet as I can' on the whole.

They are quite hard to get back onto from in the water, they just roll over as you reach up and pull down from the side, to attempt to climb up.
Even trying up over the stern, you get half way up and then it rolls on it's side again.
If the water is really cold, your strength is zapped within a few minutes and a bit of wave action will complicate matters more.
I'll just add I've never ridden one, but have seen people attempting to get back on.

I am always surprised how much some boaters dislike other "kinds" of boaters. My passion is fly fishing but I don't see antagonism to other forms of fishing on fly forums. The view seems "we all share a common interest and objectives"-clean rivers etc.
I remember the Sealine rep at SIBS saying he doesn't mind showing non Mobos round as they may well become customers down the line. I would hazard a guess that many jet skiers would join our ranks when the family starts to accumulate.

Have to say I think thats a bit harsh tbh. Don't quite know how they're expected to go 'slow and quiet'...defeats the object really. I don't think their agenda is to go out with the sole intention of disturbing everyone else. They just want to enjoy and relax the same as we do, just a different mode of transport. Seems to me, it's the same argument between some raggies and their opinion of mobo's. It's nice to think everyone can enjoy the water and consider others at the same time regardless of their choice of vessel. Granted, there are always exceptions to the rule but that can be said of anyone whether it be jetski, mobo or saily thing. Anyway, they don't bother me, I quite enjoy watching them.

Absolutely, my neighbour on the Marina started on and still has a JetSki and now a 35ft sportsboat too. He loves his JS (I have taken it out too and they are great fun to mess about on) as its instantly ready to go for an hours fun in pretty much any conditions - give or take) He is thinking about a 42ft FB next, but he would still have his JS for the rush it gives him. Live and let live.

I have to say I have been well impressed with parties of jetskiers coming into Caernarfon harbour & doing a turn round the boats at tickover. They always get a cheery hello & a wave from me - I appreciate their respect for the location.

I was just surprised that they go out on a vessel that cannot be righted when you fall off - even with 2, when the one in the water can balance the one climbing aboard. I was taught to self-rescue in my kayaks & dinghies - the idea of floating around for several hours in the hope that someone might come out & look for you is ridiculous isn't it? I certainly think it is.

We always find them fun, they seem to like playing in our wash but never seem able to keep up for long. Perhaps some people should get a proper boat. :D

friend of mine had to inform the family that the sea doo had been found but they were still searching for the father and son. It was an hour later before the whirly bird found them. Not quite sure on how they became seperated from the ski - there was a hell of a tidal rip on that day.

two very lucky people.

Not a pleasant task.

But you are correct, always stay with the boat - it's much easier to find than heads in the water. At least they had the sense to stick together & were wearing B/Aids.

Searush, I have two Yamaha FX SHO Cruisers and being honest in lake conditions they are very hard turn over BUT in sea conditions it's easier taking into account tight turns and waves .... But you really have to be trying to turn them over to be honest, they are pretty stable machines. Like everything "IF" you've done the training (which I have and insist on anyone using them does) you get the training on how to turn them back sould this happen and with the training it's relatively easy to turn them back.... Goes back to training...

Glad and happy that they are ok.......
