I have as Major said stumbled on a thread about me disappearing from view......
I went over to Dublin last Tuesday morning, single handed. Left in flat calm conditions at 02.00. All was well until about 05.00 when the wind got up, to be fair they had forecast 4-5 occasional 6 with smooth to slight conditions.
Well I thought that the skies were showing wind up high but considered that the weather men had a bit more knowledge of these conditions than I so I went with the "smooth to Slight" bit..... they lied!
NNE beam reach, not good, all the way to Dublin (65 miles from Canarfon Bar), rocked and rolled for 6 hrs and was knackered when I got there, but a Guinness help reduce the pain.
Son Vida contacted me via a friends phone, I didn't realise mine wouldn't work in Ireland.
and he said he would come around to Dublin to meet up for the craic....... dont the Irish always come for the craic. He didnt make it on Friday due to work and he didnt make it on Son Vida on Saturday due to the weather conditions. I dont know, my Little wood pile made it 65 miles and his Plastic fantastic couldn't get around the corner. Last time he couldn't make it to Abersoch when LS did.
(sorry Mick couldn't resist)
Mick and June came by car and stayed the afternoon drinking Tea (are we sure Mick is Irish ???) then they went off and promised to come back for the blessing of the boats the next day.
The next day Son Vida came around and we went out to meet them as after the blessing of the boats the bridges were lifted so all the boats could go up to Dublin moorings and return back to Poolbeg. Son Vida was just about to set off when one of his friends phoned him and said they were stranded on the way round to meet up. Mick looking like a Knight in Shining Armour said his good byes and shot off into the distance to assist his mate. I have no idea what the problem was but he had children on board so needed assistance.
I left Dublin early Monday morning and was greeted with probably the best sunrise I have ever seen on the Irish Sea.
Pictures of the Blessing of the boats to follow when I can get around to it
Tom
PS Mick is in good health and still burning (lots of) fuel?
PPS for those who were worried about me........ thanks Major
the rest... well !
