Oily rags and spontaneous combustion

A few of us made some postings on this topic earlier in the year, but that is an excellent site to demonstrate how easy it is for combustion to initiate.

Yep, quite a lot of things will do this. Look for IMDG Class 4.2!

Seeds, hay, oily cellulous products, grains. Some start with bacteria heating it up a little bit (~50-60 C) and then oxidation taking over.
 
I believe that the Offshore Yachts factory had a fire caused by just this phenomena in the 70s. They used a lot of teak oil, and I think it was a sponge soaked in the stuff that caused a problem.

Danish oil sold for treating maple kitchen worktops has a specific warning about safe disposal of rags.

I believe Owatrol paint conditioner and Coelan have warning on there cans regarding this phenomenon
