I have a rarely used Mariner 3.3hp, 2 stroke. I run it in water bucket today and ran fine and engaged gear etc, however when I lifted back out the water there was grey oily gunk just below the flat plate. Any thoughts? Not sure if it is just residue grease or if it's gear oil and something concerning as a result?

Maybe unburnt 2 stroke oil mixing in with the water in the bucket? Was it on the surface of the water and sides of the bucket as well?
If you haven't already done it, change the gearbox oil, if that's milky then you have water getting in somewhere.

It was on the surface in little clumps and also on the sides of the bucket as well as the leg. Will get the gear oil changed as well.

Ditto. I run 2 stroke mix at 100:1 in a wheelie bin to flush. A much older motor granted but plenty oil in the water afterwards. Check gearbox oil but until you do find fault I wouldn't be prematurely concerned
