Don't know if this will be of interest. I changed the oil that I use in the boat after the last rebuild last year. Its a semi synthetic, after the episode with the oil cooler going on to better places, I drained the sump to get rid of any water left in there. The thing that struck me was how clean it was. I took the cam cover off and had a look inside. Still spotless. No build up of sludge deposits anywhere.
Ok so a 150 odd hours running probably won't make the thing all sludgey, but it runs cooler and seems a bit more responsive to the throttle.

I've been running the tow car on it too. A 20 year old range rover. That seems to have benefited from it as well with higher pressures and cooler running under heavy loadings. Not ground breaking stuff I know, but when I'm saving 25 quid on a 50 gal barrel of it over the old stuff, I'm quiet pleased.

On the drum it says Statoil. Its 10/40 semi synthetic so it suits the boat and my 2 cars. I get it from.......well lets just say I get it! A 50 gal drum normally lasts me a year, which when it costs me 115 quid a barrel, it works out to about 2 quid a gallon. Oh and 25 quid deposit for the drum.

I tend to change the oil in the cars every 2500 miles and do the boat 4 times a year.
