Does anyone know roughly what the oil temperature on a 4 hp 4 stroke Suzuki Outboard should be?

I have just finished reassembling mine and its now running fine but rather than wait for it to breakdown again I would like to check the oil temp now and then with a digital thermometer probe down the filler cap into the sump oil immediately after the engine is stopped.

Does this sound a sensible method or is there a better way?Just touching the rocker cover and using the burnt finger method is a bit hit and miss /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifI havent tried myself but have heard that Suzuki are reluctant to give information like this out.

If the engine is working fine why not test the temperature now and use that as your guideline?

Forgive me saying it though, but I think it's a bit OTT to be testing the oil like this.....but what the heck. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

good idea to check it now and make a note of it.My reason for keeping an eye on it as it seems the little Suzukis are prone to clogging up and i dont want to strip it down in the middle of the season again. If I note the temp going up then it can be a winter job.

I now have a flushing connection for a hose pipe which will help.
