My oil temp keeps going up to about 110 when I start to give it some but only on the port engine. I wonder if its the gauge as the water temp is nowhere near there or could it be the thermostat?

More likely an oil cooler or raw water circuit full of crud, be careful oil and water temp do not generally track each other although a lot of people think they do. So low water temp doesn't equal low oil temp.
Could be gauge inaccuracy, easy way to check is to swop feed wires over to gauges.
