Oil suction pump - coming to LIDL

.. and on the same date, they are selling "Cordless LED torch" i.e. it works on batteries.

Innovation - will it catch on :)

There's a good collapsible draining board coming into Aldi on the 19th that looks just the job to replace my overly expensive, broken after a year from the chandlers!

Pela, the chandlers sell them, £35ish...

The problem with Peta (or mine at least) is that the tube they use appears to degrade if used to pump oil. Mine first became stiff and brittle and then shattered :(

Okay - not really a big deal but it seems a bit short sighted of them

Only used one once & borrowed it, it was a bugger to clean it properly before I gave it back...

Is PeTa a poor knockoff of PeLa, then? :)

My Pela sucker has been fine for the five years I've had it, used to pump engine oil, diesel, and occasionally bilge water (the bits in the bilge water blocked the narrow dipstick tube but that's not the tool's fault).

Mine is older than that so perhaps they have changed the tube they use

Flow rate with oil 0.2 Litres / minute quoted. 4 litre sump= 20 minutes! No thanks.

I have a very similar looking one to that with a similar rating.

- Motor oil: 0.2 L/m
- Diesel/Heating oil: 1.5 L/m

In practice, for warm engine oil, it achieves much nearer the higher published flow rate and is actually quite useful. Pulled 3 litres of sump oil from my engine on Sunday in seemingly no time at all. However I always give it lots of help ie. outlet is lower than inlet where possible.

I guess the really posh installation would have the pump permanently plumbed in, with just a spout to put an empty can under and a button to make it go :)

Big engines sometimes have a system like this but reversible, so after emptying the sump you can move the dangly hose to a fresh oil can and slurp it up and into the engine. Very swish!

My small Beta engine came with the oil extractor pump plumbed in; OK, it's manual, but very convenient - if hardly "really posh".

Ive used mine for all manner of things over the years.... must be at least 10 years old now!!! No problems cracking. I pull the bowden cable bit out of the clear tube and push in a length of copper diesel/brake pipe.... makes hoovering the bilge easier - it blocks less. It is an easy swap back for oil changes.
